WOOD: Thuja plicata (red cedar) is a beautiful, fragrant, weather-resistant
wood from the northwestern US. For the Cayuga Chair we use cypress and white cedar. We buy high-quality, clear lumber that starts out in shades of red, white and dark brown, which we finish with a fine sanding. Cedar weathers to a silver-gray, a no-maintenance look preferred by many. |

Should you desire a different look, cedar readily accepts all stains and wood preservatives. While you must paint or varnish outdoor furniture made of oak, maple, or pine, we do not recommend using paint or varnish on cedar: these flake off, leaving an unsightly appearance and are unnecessary on cedar. Should you desire a painted look, solid-tone stains work very well. |
HARDWARE: To ensure your furniture is free of rust and stains, we use only stainless steel screws and bolts, and the chain assembly for the swing is treated with a weather-resistant coating. We do not use nails or staples. The fasteners on our work ensure easy tightening as necessary. Return to Previous Page. |
